My mom connected me with a family in Honduras with a school age child who needs financial help for his school fees. I received a nice letter from him thanking me for my help & his last year’s school photo.

There are many kids in Honduras who need help.

Save Local TV and Stop the Tax!

I’m very confused by the war of word happening between the Cable companies (http://www.stopthetvtax.ca) and Local TV Broadcasters (http://localtvmatters.ca). Each group threatens dire consequences if the other gets their way. And each is spending lots of money trying to convince me that the other is wrong.

Here are the things that I keep thinking about.
1. Both Local TV and the Cable CO are large companies that make large profits.
2. Neither deserves a hand out from the Canadian People.
3. The Local TV stations produce content. They should be compensated for that effort.
4. The Cable COs transmit the content. They should be compensated for that effort.
5. Cable COs should be required to show a certain % of Canadian Content produced by Local TV.
6. Consumers should be allow to pick and choose to subscribe to individual cable channels, depending on the quality of the content.
7. Given the economic climate, neither party should be allowed to increase their fees this year, for the same level of service Canadians received last year.
8. If Local TV Creates more content people want to see, or the Cable COs provide better service to their customers- that’s how they should make their money. Not by asking for hand-outs or bail-outs.

My 2 cents worth.

I encourage you to take a few minutes, think about the arguments on both sides. Review the blogs, websites keeping in mind the source of the information you are reading.
Then take a few minutes and write to the CRTC and express you opinion.

everyday - a photo exhibit

The event was a great success! Everyone who came out, had a good time despite the hot weather. Thanks to my friends Robert & J.J. for their help in organizing and set-up. Danielle Quayle, owner of the Riverdale Perk Cafe, and her staff - for the use of the space and the great catering - the food was delicious.

My photos will remain on display until August 31st. So please pop in, have a iced tea to beat the heat & check them out!
